Lovely movie of famous bellydancer Princess Banu, performing for an audience probably at New Year in the 70-80′s. Whilst she is Turkish she studied Egyptian bellydance for quite some time and was considered one of the greatest at music interpretation at that time. She is also quite well known for her floor work and is certainly not afraid of her own sensuality.
Emily, Theres and myself before setting out on a crazy trip to Edinburgh’s Royal Mile to take part in the action.
Was good fun and we created quite a stir amongst the crowds of tourists and locals alike. We mingled with the photographers, diners and other performers there, the children were amazed by our costumes as we sparkled and jingled in the afternoon sunshine. One little boy was very puzzled asking “mummy, why are they wearing 5 pences on their clothes?” We even managed a little look round the grassmarket stalls! Was a fun afternoon and we’re considering repeating it again on this coming Saturday! If anyone else is interested in joining us, let me know! :)
1 pink ipod found, complete with gazillions of Arabic tracks, some santana, eric clapton, duran duran, kylie, various others and a random track named Fishheads.
Good Karma. I haz it.
Well it couldn’t be anyone elses could it?!
This is a lovely performance from a group in London. I like the way it highlights the diversity of bellydance . I also like the music choice!
Those looking for something to do tomorrow could head along to Pilrig Park in Leith for the final day of the Mela Festival. Events run from 12-9 and include many dance styles, live musicians, a fashion show and things for the kiddies. Here’s a link to sundays programme http://www.edinburgh-mela.co.uk/festival/sunday.php
Might see you there!
Not posted for a little while so just thought I’d give a quick update.
Been enjoyed a wee break from my college studies recently – catching up with friends, cooking some super healthy foods, having a massage and general R&R. “Ahh” I feel it’s been a well earned break! I think we all need some time on powersave mode now and then to keep us focused and passionate in life. Have also enjoyed a great party night for a friends 30th birthday, an unexpectedly hilarious trip to Glasgow, and meeting up with my bellydance friends.
Over the next few weeks I plan to read at least 1 of the books I have waiting in a queuing system, create an entire costume from start to finish, I want to do a bit of work on the site and am looking forward to an upcoming photoshoot and the events of this summer’s fringe festival.
Not to mention the start of a new beginners course at Aditi on Saturday, I can’t wait!!
A quick heads up to all Heriot Watt students!
Another bellydance class looks set to run in September, keep your eyes peeled for info on campus and I hope to see you in the new term for more shaking and shimmying fun!
