I’ve been asked to invite you all to be part of a hula-hooping world record attempt!!!
The event will take place on Thursday (19th April) 8:30am-9:00am outside the Sheraton Hotel, Festival Square, Edinburgh. Registration is from 7:30am.
More details here:
“Hi Lindsey, my name is Meg and I work for an experiential marketing agency. We are currently working with Sheraton hotels and on Thursday 19th April we are going to try and break the world record for the largest amount of people hula-hooping at one time! This will take place outside the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Festival Square between 8.30am-9am.
Everyone who takes part will receive a free t-shirt, hula hoop, morning refreshments and will also be entered into a prize draw to win a years membership at One Spa, worth £1,500! We are trying to get the word out and get as many people involved as possible in this very exciting event! We would really appreciate it if you could persuade all your friends/colleagues/customers to get involved! Feel free to also put up this poster around your local area/work place if you wish. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any queries or questions. Thanks so much, and looking forward to hopefully seeing you there on the 19th! All the best, Meg”
Hula-hooping is a good activity for developing core strength and it works well to pull in your waistline. It’s fun and with practice there are loads of moves you can master! I’ve previously enjoyed combining hula-hooping with bellydancing. My favourite move I’ve come up with is what I call the “hula-hip drop”
Ironically I just parted with my own hula-hoop collection but that’s alright since they are giving them away, wheeeeeeee!
A sparkling opportunity has arisen to join a new Performing Bellydance Class Troupe based in Edinburgh!
You will be joining us from the start of our adventure and will grow with the troupe in experience, technique & styling. All styles of Bellydance will be represented and you can have your say in helping name our troupe!
Performance opportunities already lined up range from bellydance haflas with an audience of 30-50 people to Edinburgh’s largest community organised event with an audience of over 20,000. You’ll be able to choose which events you’d like to perform at although you’ll likely find that after you’ve danced at one event you’ll want to dance at them all!
Learning, practice and rehearsals will take the form of a weekly troupe class and whilst some dedication will be required this will give you a sense of pride & a HUGE AMOUNT OF FUN!!
Preferably you’ll be of intermediate to advanced bellydance skill level although beginners will be welcomed on individual merit.
Email for more info or ask me about this opportunity at your next class… exciting times!

For those of you yet to discover the BDSS, they are a professional American bellydance troupe who travel worldwide doing what we all love and doing it with some real showomanship and groundbreaking flair! They are a bit special and this event is a BIG deal for Scottish Bellydance! (Well done to those who made it happen )
Last year 10 of us BDB girls were lucky enough to travel to Dunfermline for their debut Scottish performance to see the stage show “Bombay Bellywood” – A fusion of bellydance & bollywood. Here’s a video from that show:
This new event called “Club Bellydance” will take on a form closer to that of a large community hafla or a more intimate show with the local community providing the first half and the Bellydance Superstars providing the second!
Tickets have literally just gone on sale and I imagine they may well sell out for this one! I’ll be booking my ticket very soon, if you’d like me to book yours at the same time get your ticket money to me asap and I’ll get on it…

Jennifer, Assistant Producer at talkback THAMES has contacted me to ask would I like to appear as a contestant on the new revamped 80′s classic quiz show BLOCKBUSTERS!! Hahaha, brilliant! They’re keen to have a diverse range of contestants on and it would make for entertaining viewing. The question is: would I like to?
She’s also asked me to let other dancers know how to apply since you can team up in pairs. Then the question is: would you like to?
Here’s the blurb…
Sounds like random fun, let me know if you’re up for it & I’ll send you the application form & details for your audition!
Starting January 2012 I’ll be hosting the first Belly Dance Google Hangouts which will take the form of an online practice session streaming straight into your home, wherever you are in the world! All you’ll need is a Google+ account and a decent internet connection.
