This morning I was woken to the sound of bagpipes and indian drumming. It was a delicious fusion of musical flavours. Thinking “it’s some sort of Indian/Scottish wedding” sleepyhead dragged herself up to the window to find:
- 1x indian bagpiper in traditional Scottish clobber (hunk)
- 1x indian drummer in traditional Indian clobber (hunk)
- 3x bright and sparkly saree wearing women (beautiful)
- 4x photographers (professional)
- 1x man handing out flyers (sociable)
- and 2x little dalry boys throwing explosive caps at everyones feet (menacing)
I brushed my teeth, thew on some joggers & my jacket and ran downstairs… It’s a Wellbeing Mela!! it’s on at the St. Brides Centre, Orwell Terrace, Edinburgh until 3.30pm and it’s free!!
“An event to brighten up your day brings together communities and artists from diverse ethnic groups to promote well-being. A spectacular fusion of performers include bagpipers, drummers and dancers alongside therapies and arts activities for all ages.”
Back in the flat I got a text from my cousin to tell me about the event which she helped organise through her work for the mental health charity behind it!
All a little late notice and yet somehow all the more welcome!
I’ll be popping over later on, once I finish sunday brunch!
Hope to see you there!
October 9th, 2010
Sunday (10.10.10) has been earmarked by 350.org as a “Global Work Party” with events planned in 140 countries to bring people together to address climate change. Now Edinburgh’s on the map!
On Sunday Edinburgh hosts it’s first ever CARROTMOB!!
“Carrotmob is a type of consumer activism in which businesses compete at how socially responsible they can be, and then a network of consumers spends money to support whichever business makes the strongest offer. We harness consumer power to make it possible for the most socially-responsible business practices to also be the most profitable choices. It’s the opposite of a boycott.”
Check out the cool cartoon on the Carrotmob site!
I might go hangout for a while, see what happens.
..Hey, d’you think they’ll serve carrot juice?!!
D’you think people will dress like carrots?!!
Oh I hope so! Anyway, might see you there my little juliennes..

(Fife’s on the Mela map!)
Did you missed the Edinburgh Mela at the start of August? …I did and have been kicking myself! Well, here’s a second chance, only in Fife! It’s their first ever Mela and it’s being hosted Sunday (26th September), 12noon – 8pm at Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline.
Think tasty foods, stalls, live music, marquees, exotic new things to try. There’s dancing too.. lots of bhangra and some bellydancing, I know the tribal troupe “Twisted Tails” will be there to name but one performance. Oh yeah and it’s free! So, if you’re looking for something to do on Sunday this will be very much worthy of gracing with your very colourful presence!

So you may be aware that a fabulous new term of classes is starting on Tuesday 26th October with pre events “Taster Workshop” on Saturday 16th October and “Girls Night” on Saturday 23 October!
I’ve done a bit of jiggery-pokery to make classes the most accessible ever and they’ll be super brilliant because the new set up looks like this:
Tuesdays 7-8pm | BellyBasics @ StudioBelow
Tuesdays 8-9pm | ChoreoImpro @ StudioBelow
Wednesdays 8-9pm | BellyBasics @ Craigmount High School
Saturday is the new events day! I plan to run new exciting concept workshops and all sorts of crazy things every now and then.
AWESOME as you can see! (You can also check our calendar on the learn page for all of this including details of the Taster Workshop and Girls Night!)
A few new ladies have prepaid and booked their spaces already. Things will start to fill up more rapidly from here on in. For existing ‘students’ I’d recommend booking your spaces now just to be sure and you can either do it online through the learn page which is fun & secure or comment on this post stating which you’d like to book and pay in class between now and then. Once upon a time Bellydancing Barbie was a Brownie Guide. It was awesome to have fun with new friends, play heaps of games and there were always new hobbies to try. On 22nd November some very lucky Brownies will try Bellydancing with BDB herself!…

I was delighted to be contacted recently by Fiona Kenny, newly appointed Ladies of Harley Officer, for the Dunedin Chapter Harley Davidson Owners Group. The ladies are from all around the east of Scotland and meet every Wednesday they can in Musselburgh to let their hair down!
Looking to up the fun factor of the girly nights Fiona has asked me to provide a Taster Night and some sensational Performances on Wednesday 11th August 2010. I’ll take them through a range of trademark bellydance moves set to funky, exotic and enchanting music, invoking their inner goddess and having a good healthy giggle!
The ladies of Harley are going to absolutely love it and I can’t wait..
